Coming soon! Updates on new designs. We are currently working on three decks:
- A completely new Bohemian Cats' Tarot.
- Our own, Victorian-style Bohemian Fortune-telling cards,
- A re-imagination of antique Bohemian Fortune-telling cards (yet to be named).
We are getting lots of enquiries about the new Baroque Bohemian Cats' Tarot (by the way, the name isn't yet final). But please be patient - it will take us at least until late 2022 to make.
It isn't a reprint or new version of the original Baroque Bohemian Cats' Tarot; it's an entirely new deck. We make every costume (loosely based on Baroque clothing) by hand - including designing our own unique embroideries, lace and hats.
The miniature clothing patterns are also, of course, entirely our own. So it's a slow process, but does produce uniquely detailed imagery. Things have been held up by two lockdowns (which we know are necessary) but we are still hopeful of having the work done by the end of 2022 - all being well.
If you haven't yet seen the video of our design process (made a few days before lockdown in March!), please do take a look.
and... here is a first sample image from the Bohemian Cats book. We will also be making a large-format book (for adults who love cats, costumes and more than a touch of surrealism) that will relate to the deck.
The Bohemian Fortune-telling cards - our own deck.
We are near to finishing our two decks of "Bohemian Fortune-telling cards". These follow the system, which we were very familiar with during our time in Prague, often called "gypsy cards" and in Czech known usually just as "vykladaci karty", which can be loosely translated as "cards for doing readings".
In the companion book for these decks, we will outline the history, how to read with them and, of course, we will explain why we chose not to use the term "gypsy cards".
Here are two of the cards that we have already completed and printed (as first samples). You may find that you get a small present of these in your next order! They have plain backs as we haven't yet designed those. Of course, the final cards will have our usual cold-stamped - and we hope beautiful - backs.
You can see some of the original Victorian photos that we will (probably) be incorporating in the designs. We base everything on original photos, often changed, added to and even remade in part, so that we end up with the image we feel will work best.
The Bohemian Fortune-telling cards - our re-imagining of an antique deck.
We are also close to completing our re-imaginging (with cold-stamping we hope!) of an antique deck in this Bohemian style. It's always been one of our favourites of these antique decks and has some wonderful cards. It's been a pleasure to work on cleaning and enhancing the images.
I've heard you are leaving tarot. Is this right?Yes, we plan the new Bohemian Cats' Tarot to be the last deck of tarot we'll make. However, while we are working on it, and while it's available, we will try to do some reprints of our other decks. The Victorian Romantic Tarot reprint is planned for 2021, but no other schedule is agreed as yet.
Why did you decide to do the new cards in the "Bohemian" style?
We've worked with these cards since first going to Prague (actually, a reading with a set of these is one thing that persuaded Karen to move to Prague). We decided to make a deck in this style some years ago, but never got very far with it. Recently, however, we decided that it's now or never!
When will pre-orders open? Will there be pre-order offers?
Yes, there will be a pre-order discount, and we hope to open pre-orders early in 2021. Originally we planned for late 2020, but with lockdowns, issues with print companies and lots of other things happening, we think 2021 will be a better time to give our full focus to this.
